A Message From Mary McDuffie

Navy Federal President and CEO Mary McDuffie shares her thoughts about Independence Day and our commitment to serve.

I hope you all have been keeping cool and staying safe. As I’m sure you’ve all seen by now, the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases throughout the country has forced many states and organizations like ours to re-evaluate and re-implement precautionary measures to protect the health and well-being of everyone. As a result, we’ll be restricting service at some of our branches to drive-thru-only, so please be sure to check our website to see if your local branch is affected before visiting in person. I’m optimistic that these measures will only be temporary and that we'll return to some semblance of normal shortly.

This month, many of us will be honoring the anniversary of our nation’s independence. While this year may be different for many in terms of the way we commemorate the holiday, questions of what it means to be an American and how to stand up for what we believe in are being talked about in every circle.

At this time, in the spirit of our Independence Day, I would like to reiterate a point I think is vitally important to our Navy Federal family: as a credit union, we have a commitment to serve others, and we're enriched by the diversity of our members.

We know that real, meaningful change is not an overnight endeavor. Here at Navy Federal, diversity and inclusion have always been a strong part of our culture, and we’ve recently taken measures to make it even stronger. Our goal is to better learn from each other, celebrate what makes us unique and encourage and empower our entire workforce.

So as you celebrate the Fourth—whether you’re lighting fireworks, eating barbeque or taking an evening stroll—I encourage you to pause for a moment and think about our joint values. While a lot has changed since our country was founded nearly 250 years ago, the desire to build a more just, free society, and a better future for our children has been carried down through the generations. I’m optimistic for the progress we can still make, and I’m thankful for our Active Duty military who are working around the clock to protect our freedoms and ensure we can build a better tomorrow for all.

I'd like to close by reminding you all that we're dedicated to serving you and your financial needs because our members truly are our mission. Please be safe and know that we are here for you when you need us.

Sincerely,

Mary McDuffie
