Using the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card for a purchase is similar to using a debit card. At the time of purchase, select "CREDIT," sign the receipt and go! Or, select "DEBIT" if prompted and enter your Personal Identification Number ("PIN"). If you've forgotten your PIN, click "Sign In" on this website, then click "Forgot PIN." If you have or allow cash access, this is your ATM PIN as well. The Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card may be used for purchases up to the balance remaining on the card; it isn't tied to a line of credit.
The Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card helps put an end to last-minute ATM trips and constant asking for money. With online and automatic loading, combined with parental controls like spending and ATM limits, the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card makes it easy for you to provide your teen with spending money while teaching him/her financial responsibility. It enables parents to monitor spending, and it's safer than cash because Navy Federal protects you and your teen if the card is ever lost or stolen. And, it gives your teen the freedom to use it everywhere that accepts Visa Debit Cards. Navy Federal Visa Buxx is perfect for school books, supplies, music, food, and travel, and is great for peace of mind in case of emergencies.
When cash is lost, it's gone forever. However, if the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card or card number is ever lost or stolen, you're protected with Navy Federal's Zero Liability policy. Your teen's card will be replaced, the PIN will remain the same and the balance will be transferred to the new card. The replacement card will arrive within five to ten business days.
Automatic loading is a convenient way to set up allowances or budget how much money is given to a teen. Every week, once a month, or whenever you deem most appropriate, a pre-selected amount can be transferred from a parent's Navy Federal Debit Card or Credit Card (Visa and Mastercard only) to the teen's Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card. It's quick and easy, and helps take the stress out of giving teens cash.
Navy Federal Visa Buxx gives teens a tool to learn the importance of budgeting wisely and planning accordingly by supplying an account history for them to review. Teens can access the account history feature by signing in using their username and password on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx website to keep track of purchases, check the card balance and find information and tips on financial management subjects.
Yes, parents determine how much money gets loaded on the card, as well as when and how the card is loaded. Parents can sign in using their username and password on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx website to review their teen's spending and suspend the card at any time, for any reason. In this way, the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card offers teens financial independence within safe, comfortable and structured limits.
Parents can review a teen's account anytime and see how much they're spending and where they're spending it. Parents can discuss with their teens how and where the card can be used. Together, you and your teen can agree on the best places to shop, but remember that talking to your teen about money and what you expect from them is even more important.
Using a Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card is a first step—and a big responsibility—for your teen. When you sign your teen up for their Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card, encourage them to take the "Financial Tools Quiz," located on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx homepage.
Parents can authorize Navy Federal Credit Union members who are family members or friends to put gift money on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card. It's faster and safer than mailing a check or giving cash, and it enables the teen to get what they want. After the parent enrolls and sets up their teen with a Visa Buxx Card, the parent will have the option to add family members and friends. Once the parent adds them, an email will be automatically sent to the family member or friend with instructions on how to enroll and add a gift to the authorized teen's Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card.
Yes, family members and friends must be Navy Federal Credit Union members and have a valid SSN.
The parent and teen may choose to opt in under their profile to receive free text messages that will update them on card activity such as daily available balance, value load and low balance. Please note that message and data rates may apply. You may change your text message options or opt out at any time by editing your profile or by texting "STOP" to 868472 or 288472. For additional assistance, contact customer service at 866-304-1909.
The Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card is a prepaid card, so spending limits are set by the amount of money parents load onto the card. When a teen makes a purchase with the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card, the purchase amount is deducted from the card balance. When the card balance is low, parents can add money to, or "reload," the card from their Navy Federal Debit Card or Credit Card (Visa and Mastercard only). Parents can even schedule automatic loading to provide an allowance on a regular basis. It's a perfect tool for parents and teens to talk about budgeting, spending and financial responsibility. For security reasons, the Navy Federal funding card must be in the same name as the account holder/parent on file.

Visa ReadyLink gives parents and teens an additional and convenient way of adding value to the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card and immediate access to those funds. Present your card, along with the funds to be loaded, to the cashier at any Visa ReadyLink location. Just look for the Visa ReadyLink symbol on the back of the card, or you can also find participating Visa ReadyLink Locations near you by clicking the locator symbol on our Visa Buxx homepage. Your card will be swiped, and your funds will be applied. The cashier will provide you with a receipt, and you'll have immediate access to your funds. Each participating Visa ReadyLink retailer may choose the type of funds that are accepted (e.g., cash).
Visa ReadyLink is a convenient service that provides you with a simple way to add funds to your Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card. Visa ReadyLink load transactions are accepted at thousands of U.S. locations, including 7-Eleven, Safeway, Vons, Dominick's, Carrs, Genuardi's, Pak ‘n Save, Pavilions, Randalls and Tom Thumb stores. Find Visa ReadyLink locations near you.
If the participating Visa ReadyLink merchant couldn't add funds to your Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card, your load request was most likely not approved. You may have exceeded the daily load limit or the total balance on the card. Merchants may also place limits on the frequency of loads. You can contact us at 1-866-304-1909 for more information.
Navy Federal doesn't charge you a fee for using this service. Some retailers may charge a fee to load value to the card. These fees, if any, are established independently by each participating provider and retailer.
Your card is eligible to receive funds through Visa Money Transfer from participating financial institutions. Navy Federal Credit Union isn't an originator of Visa Money Transfer; therefore, you cannot initiate a Visa Money Transfer from your Visa Buxx Card to another card.
Merchants cannot tell how much money is on the card until your teen tries to make a purchase. Any attempt to make a purchase for an amount that's greater than the cardholder's available balance will be declined. While this doesn't happen very often, it's important for the cardholder to keep track of their available balance to help avoid this situation. Your teen can use a second payment method (e.g., cash, check, credit or debit card) in combination with the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card to make a purchase greater than the balance on the card. It's okay for the card to fully deplete funds. If this happens, simply follow the appropriate steps to replenish the card.
Occasionally, a merchant does put an item through without prior authorization. If the purchase exceeds the available balance, the cardholder's card will have a negative balance. In these rare circumstances where non-sufficient funds occur, you'd be notified to load more funds onto the card. If either you or the teen makes a purchase that exceeds the available balance on the card, you shall remain fully responsible for the amount of the purchases approved or the cash withdrawn. We recommend checking the balance of your card before using it.
We recommend that the teen use a transaction register (similar to a check register) to record all their purchases and deposits. This makes it easy to keep track of their current balance and is great practice for when they have a checking account in the future. Teens should also keep their receipts and compare them to their register and online statement. By tracking their activity regularly, your teen will always know how much they're spending, where they've spent it and how much is on the card. This helps them to understand budgeting and the value of money, and it makes shopping with Navy Federal Visa Buxx easy.
Both parents and teens can check the card balance by signing in to navyfederal.org/visabuxx/visa-buxx.php or by calling 1-866-304-1909.
It's important to know that some merchants like restaurants and gas stations "reserve" more money than your teen may actually plan to spend. They do this to cover variable costs like tips or a tank of gas. Within three to seven days, the "reserve" is canceled and the funds become available again on the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card.
If the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card is lost or stolen, it should be reported to 1-866-304-1909 immediately. Only parents can request replacement Visa Buxx Cards. The PIN will remain the same, and the balance will be transferred to the new card.
As a security measure to protect the teen, a merchant might ask to see a teen's ID, which could be a school ID or a driver's license. If the teen doesn't carry ID, the merchant can match the signature on the back of the card to the teen's signature on the receipt.
During enrollment, the parent can select whether or not to allow cash access. The parent may elect at a later time to select or turn off cash access online at navyfederal.org/visabuxx/visa-buxx.php. The four-digit PIN is chosen when the initial Visa Buxx Card is activated. The teen can use the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card to withdraw cash from a Navy Federal, CO-OP Network, Cashpoints or Visa/PLUS Network ATM. The maximum amount allowable for cash withdrawals from ATMs, cash back at places such as grocery stores and drugstores, and cash advances from financial institutions that accept Visa Debit Cards is limited to $600.00 per day. The parent may designate a withdrawal limit less than the maximum allowed.
Either you or your teen can change the forgotten PIN via the website by clicking the "Forgot PIN" option located on the left-hand side.
Either a parent or a teen can suspend the card at any time, for any reason. The Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card cannot be used again until it's reactivated by the parent. This can be done by calling 1-866-304-1909.
You can close your teen's Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card via the website or by calling 1-866-304-1909. Please keep in mind that once you've permanently closed your teen's Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card, you cannot re-activate or re-open the card. Although your teen can no longer use the Navy Federal Visa Buxx Card, the card will remain active for ten days so all pending transactions have posted; the available balance will be credited to your funding account. If your teen has a negative balance after all transactions have posted, your funding account will be charged the remaining balance. You'll be notified via your email address five days prior to any debit or credit being applied to your funding account. For refunds issued after card closure, please contact us at 1-866-304-1909 and a representative will assist with submitting a request to return the funds back to your primary funding account.
