Credit union again making 0% APR loans available to eligible members

VIENNA, Va. (February 26, 2024) – With the federal government facing the risk of a shutdown in the coming days, Navy Federal Credit Union will again offer a paycheck assistance program to help support its members through any potential lapse in government funding. This will allow Navy Federal to provide paycheck assistance to eligible members should federal spending authorizations due to expire on March 1 or March 8 not be extended.

The program will be available to any military servicemember, federal government employee or contractor who is paid directly by the federal government, receives their paycheck via direct deposit with Navy Federal, and whose pay will be affected by either potential shutdown.

“Many of our nation’s servicemembers are concerned about what a potential shutdown of the federal government would mean for their finances,” said Pete Amstutz, Navy Federal’s senior vice president of savings and membership. “Knowing the strain this could impose on military men and women across the country, Navy Federal is proud to again be offering this paycheck assistance program to our members should a shutdown occur.”

Navy Federal activated similar support programs during shutdowns in 2011, 2013 and, most recently, in 2018-2019, when it collectively provided loans to nearly 20,000 credit union members.
