Navy Federal Credit Union to Provide Support for Members Amid Potential Government Shutdown
Navy Federal to offer a 0% APR program to eligible members facing potential paycheck disruption.
Vienna, Va. (January 26, 2026) – With the January 30 deadline to extend federal spending authorization fast approaching, Navy Federal Credit Union is once again stepping up to support its members in the event of a government shutdown. The credit union will offer a 0% APR program to eligible members whose pay may be affected, continuing our long tradition of support during government shutdowns. This commitment has been demonstrated in 2011, 2013, 2018–2019, and again in 2025, when we provided more than 190,000 disbursements totaling $352.4 million to over 82,000 members.
The paycheck assistance program is designed for military Servicemembers, federal employees and government contractors who are paid directly by the federal government, have their paychecks deposited with Navy Federal and would experience a disruption in income due to a shutdown.
"We recognize that the possibility of a government shutdown can create significant uncertainty for our members and their families," said Matt Freeman, Navy Federal’s senior vice president of digital payments. " Our priority is making sure our members know we are committed to providing reliable solutions and ongoing support in their times of need."
If a shutdown occurs, eligible members will be able to register for the paycheck assistance program starting Wednesday, January 28, via Navy Federal’s mobile app or website, to ensure coverage for the first impacted pay period. The credit union will continue to share updates and additional resources on its website as needed.
