Joining Through a Family or Household Member?

    Family and household members will be referred to as 'sponsors' (the persons through whom you are eligible for membership) throughout the application process. If you are using a sponsor for membership eligibility, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Sponsor's last name
  • Sponsor's Access Number or last four digits of sponsor's Social Security Number
    and date of birth
  • Sponsoring member's affiliation (e.g., Army, Air Force, Contractor)

Eligibility Requirements

Navy Federal's field of membership is determined by the National Credit Union Administration. If you fall under any of these categories, you're eligible to join:

Department of Defense (DOD)
Uniformed Personnel
Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force Active Duty retirees, and annuitants
United States Coast Guard Personnel
including Active Duty, reservists, civilian employees, retirees, and annuitants
Department of Defense Reservists
Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force retirees and annuitants
Army and Air National Guard Personnel
civilian employees, retirees, and annuitants
Delayed Entry Program (DEP) Personnel
