Mary McDuffie’s Message to Members

Hello and happy 2024. I hope each of you were able to enjoy a safe, relaxing and festive holiday season with your family and close friends.

The new year arrives with a tremendous amount of optimism and opportunity at Navy Federal Credit Union as we work to strengthen and sustain our successes from 2023. Last year, Forrester once again ranked us as the top multichannel bank for customer experience, while The Military Times and MONEY recognized Navy Federal as one of the Best Banks for Military Members and Vets. Overall, leadership and staff across the credit union remain committed to serving you with the best possible products and services every day.

Jan. 17 marked the 91st anniversary of Navy Federal’s founding. We spent the previous year celebrating those 9 decades of service to our members, along the way reaffirming our partnerships with non-profit organizations that support America’s service men and women. As part of our 90th Anniversary Celebration, Navy Federal was proud to donate $10,000 in grants to 9 military-focused nonprofits nationwide, including the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Air Force Aid Society, Army Emergency Relief and Coast Guard Foundation.

What began as a shared vision among 7 Navy Department employees in the midst of the Great Depression has grown into a credit union that today serves over 13 million enlisted men and women from all branches of the military, Veterans, DoD employees and their families. We’re proud to be part of the global credit union movement, which at its essence, began from a desire to serve the underserved. Ninety years after our founding, that mission—the same one that inspired those 7 Navy Department employees—remains central to our goals at Navy Federal. That will never change.

Lastly, as some of you may have heard, I announced my retirement to our team and volunteer Board of Directors back in September, and I will officially move onto this next chapter of my life on March 1. Replacing me as Navy Federal’s President and CEO is Dietrich Kuhlmann.

Dietrich is a 35-year Veteran of the U.S. Navy and Department of Defense and has been our chief operating officer since 2022. I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Dietrich nearly every day since he came on board at Navy Federal, and I can think of no better individual to further our mission of serving our members and their families.

Working on behalf of Navy Federal Credit Union and its members has been one of the best experiences of my life. I’m so appreciative of the people who gave me this opportunity and of all the hardworking, dedicated professionals I’ve met along the way. I know the credit union is in excellent hands with Dietrich at the helm, and I look forward to seeing what Navy Federal will accomplish under his leadership in the years ahead.
