Your Path to Building Credit

Responsible credit card use can help you move toward an upgrade to our cashRewards credit card—our most popular unsecured card.

What Does Responsible Card Use Look Like?

  • Make small, regular purchases that you can easily afford to pay off
  • Make your credit card and bill payments on time
  • Keep your credit utilization low

See how you can build credit with a credit card, improve your credit score and more.

How the Upgrade Works:

After just 3 months, you could be eligible for a credit limit increase. You don’t have to add to your deposit in order to be eligible. Whether your credit limit is increased will depend on your current credit limit and other factors.

Then, at 6 months, we’ll automatically review your account for an upgrade to our cashRewards card. Don’t worry if you don’t qualify right away; we’ll continue to check it each month. There’s no need to request a review.

With cashRewards, you’ll no longer have a hold on your funds, and you’ll start earning 1.5% cash back on all purchases.Footnote [1]

Your card number will remain the same, and we’ll send you a cashRewards card with a new CVV and expiration date.

Tip: When you get your secured card deposit back, roll it into a certificate, invest with Navy Federal Financial Group Digital Investor or keep it in your savings account and continue on your path to meeting your financial goals.
