How Do I Use Checks?

Cashier's Check Requests

It’s easy and convenient to order a cashier’s check from home. Use digital banking* to place an order and choose to have the check delivered to your home or available for pickup at your local branch.

To order via mobile:

  1. Sign in to the Navy Federal app.
  2. Select “More”.
  3. Select “Send Money”.
  4. Select “Request a Cashier’s Check”.
  5. Select “New Cashier’s Check” or one of the last 5 checks requested to be used as a template.
  6. Complete the required fields and choose your delivery method.
  7. Select “Submit,” then “Done” to complete the order.

To order online:

  1. Sign in to your account at navyfederal.org.
  2. Select the “Account Services” tab.
  3. Select “Request Cashier’s Check” under “Checking & Savings”.
  4. Select a blank cashier’s check or one of the last 5 checks requested to be used as a template.
  5. Complete the required fields and choose your delivery method.
  6. Select “Submit,” then “Done” to complete the order.

To order by signed fax:

  1. Send a signed fax, including the amount of the check, payee’s name and address, and phone contact information to 703-255-7739.
  2. You can also order by mail or by calling 1-888-842-6328.

    Cashier’s checks may be sent to the address on your account or routed to any Navy Federal branch in the U.S. or overseas for pickup. Orders made online or with a mobile device are subject to a maximum of $2,500 if the check is being sent by mail. Requests greater than $2,500 can be submitted via mail, fax, mobile or online, with branch pickup as the delivery method. You may request checks payable to yourself, yourself and another payee, or to a 3rd party. Checks made payable to a 3rd party are available for branch pickup only. If you choose to pick it up at your local branch, follow the directions for branch pickup. Checks not picked up within 4 calendar days will be canceled and the funds returned to your account. If you choose to have the cashier’s check mailed, it will be sent to the address on your account. Delivery time will vary based on the shipping method chosen. Deliveries via regular mail normally arrive within 5-7 business days. Expedited shipping options, including overnight delivery, are available for an additional fee.

Mail a Check

To mail a deposit:

  1. Print and complete a Deposit Voucher.
  2. Include a check made out to Navy Federal Credit Union and provide instructions for savings deposit or certificate purchase. You can use this option to make additions to existing IRA and/or Education Savings Account (ESA) plans or to establish a new plan by including a completed IRA or ESA account application.

You can request FREE postage-paid deposit envelopes by calling 1-888-842-6328 or our international phone numbers. These envelopes are:

  • available for deposits into savings accounts, checking accounts or MMSAs or to make additions to existing IRAs or certificate purchases
  • not to be used for payments

Note: Additional postage is required for overseas mailings.

Request processed on receipt, posts to account same day if received prior to cutoff time. Subject to check hold policy. There's no fee for this service.
