How Do I Use Checks?

Cashier's Checks*

Cashier's checks are available to our members free of charge.** Order one by:

  • Signing on to Account Access*** — Our fast, free and convenient way to manage your money, available 24 hours a day. Enroll now.
  • Automated Teller System (requests are restricted to checks with a minimum of $5 and maximum of $5,000 per check and with the member as payee).

OR

  • Send a fax: 703-255-7739 (On faxed requests, please include your name, address, Navy Federal account number, amount to be sent, contact phone number, signature and any special instruction; i.e., FedEx delivery, Express Mail delivery, etc. Verbal confirmation may be necessary for all written requests, regardless of payee, before completing the request.)
  • Mail a written, signed request to Navy Federal (On written requests, please include your name, address, Navy Federal account number, amount to be sent, contact phone number, signature and any special instruction; i.e., FedEx delivery, Express Mail delivery, etc. Verbal confirmation may be necessary for all written requests, regardless of payee, before completing the request.)
  • Visit a local branch.
  • Withdrawals for real estate closings and investment accounts can be made by calling 1-888-842-6328, international numbers, when the member is the beneficiary.

Once a request is received, funds are withdrawn from savings by next business day and sent by U.S. mail or Federal Express. Requests for House Closing and Investments where the member is the beneficiary may be requested over the phone.

Mail a Check

To mail a deposit:

  1. Print and complete a Deposit Voucher
  2. Include a check made out to Navy Federal Credit Union and provide instructions for savings deposit or certificate purchase. You can use this option to make additions to existing IRA and/or Education Savings Account (ESA) plans or to establish a new plan by including a completed IRA or ESA account application.

You can request FREE postage-paid deposit envelopes by calling 1-888-842-6328 or our international numbers. These envelopes are:

  • Available for deposits into savings, checking or MMSAs or to make additions to existing IRAs or certificate purchases.
  • Not to be used for payments.

Note: Additional postage is required for overseas mailings.

Processed on receipt, posts to account same day if received prior to cutoff time. Subject to check hold policy. There is no fee for this service.


Cashier's Check by Mail*

  1. Request via:

    • in person at at a local branch
  2. Funds are withdrawn from savings and sent by U.S. mail or Federal Express by next business day
  3. For added security, requests payable to someone other than you or a joint owner on your Navy Federal account must be made in writing at either a local branch or by fax to 703-255-7739. Faxed requests require current contact information. Verbal confirmation may be necessary for all written requests, regardless of payee, before completing the request.
  4. Fees for express shipping apply.

Withdrawals for real estate closings and investment accounts can be made by calling 1-888-842-6328, international numbers, when the member is the beneficiary.

*Any request for transfers of funds to the Philippines must be made in writing. Any requests over $500 to a third party must be made in writing. If a member requests more than two cashier's checks in one day, a $5 fee applies to all checks after the first two.

**A $5 fee is assessed for each Cahier's Check in excess of two per day.

***There is a $5.00 minimum and $5,000 maximum for Cashier's Checks requested via Account Access or Touch Tone Teller. Check must be made payable to the member and mailed to the address of record.
