Mary McDuffie’s Message to Members
The new year is upon us. I hope everyone had a joyous holiday and a happy New Year.
2023 is a big year for Navy Federal Credit Union as we celebrate 90 years of serving our members. Our credit union was founded during the Great Depression by seven Department of the Navy employees who wanted to help themselves and their co-workers reach their financial goals. Their vision was a credit union that offered loans with affordable rates and manageable terms—encouraging financial security by providing a safe place to save. So, they pooled their money and invited others to join. The result is who we are today: a not-for-profit cooperative built to meet members’ needs.
What started as a small group of Navy Department employees with similar goals 90 years ago has grown to serve all Department of Defense and Coast Guard Active Duty, veterans, civilian and contractor personnel, and their families. Right now, we serve more than 12.3 million members as the world’s largest credit union. We’ll continue to focus on our members and improve your experience. As other financial institutions are shutting their brick-and-mortar facilities, Navy Federal plans to open five more branch locations across the country in 2023.
While this is a momentous year, we know it may not be an easy one as we face continued inflation. We see 2023 as a time when you can lean on our services, though. We’ll be here, standing strong, living by our core values and fulfilling our commitment that “Our Members Are the Mission®.”
As we start 2023 together, whether you’re deployed, looking at a PCS or tackling some other challenge, please remember we’re here for you. Together, we’ll make the most of the year ahead!
