How to Apply for a Credit Card
Interested in getting a Navy Federal Credit Card? We’re here to answer any questions you have about the application process.
-
Step 1
Apply for a Card
You'll have to supply some personal information on the application, including your annual income and housing information. You can add an authorized user if you like, but you'll also have the option to do this later. Keep in mind that you need to be a Navy Federal member before applying for one of our cards.
-
Step 2
Credit Check
We’ll contact one of the three major credit bureaus to check your credit history. Your credit score and other factors (like how much debt you already have) will help determine if you’re approved, your interest rate and your credit limit.
The credit bureau inquiry results in a “hard pull” and could impact your credit score depending on how many times you’ve recently applied for credit. The effect on your credit score is determined by the credit bureau standards.
-
Step 3
Text Approval
If we have a phone number on file for you and you’re approved, we’ll send you a text letting you know our decision.
-
Step 4
If You’re Not Approved
If your application isn’t approved, you’ll receive a letter within 30 days explaining the reason.

Step 5
Get Your New Card
